Local Veterans in Treatment for PTSD and Other Challenges Celebrate Christmas with Family and Friends at Samaritan Daytop Village

(December 25, 2017 - New York, NY) About 50 veterans recovering from addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder reunited with their families for a joyous Christmas celebration at Samaritan Daytop Village, the New York City-based health and human services organization offering an array of programs for substance abuse treatment, mental health, homeless individuals and families, and specialized services for veterans.

The holiday party at Samaritan Daytop Village’s 43rd Street Veterans Program, which was decked out in festive holiday décor, is an opportunity for the recovering servicemen to bond with their families in a supportive and safe environment. The servicemen and their families celebrated with gift giving, caroling, food and a visit from Santa.

Many of the veterans currently in the program at the 48-bed flagship treatment facility in midtown served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“Many who served our country are now fighting personal battles. The holidays can be daunting and lonely for veterans who struggle with PTSD and other disorders. Reuniting them with their families at Christmas is an important part of the healing process for them and their loved ones,” said Tino Hernandez, President and CEO of Samaritan Daytop Village.

A pioneer in comprehensive, veteran-specific treatment for more than 30 years, Samaritan Daytop Village administers three residential treatment facilities exclusively for veterans struggling with chemical dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder and other life challenges. In addition, its operates the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program, which provides community-based housing assistance and support services for at-risk veterans and their families.
